I'm bringing in my good friend Tom Whitaker (the guy in the middle in the pic) from St. Louis to do a three-day level 1 and 2 Krav Maga instructor seminar and certification on June 5th, 6th, and 7th.
Tom is a Krav Maga black belt and he travels to Israel frequently to train at the Wingate Institute, which is the HQ for the IDF's Krav Maga training. He's a certified senior practical instructor in Krav Maga through the Wingate Institute in Israel. He is also a successful school owner who can share a lot of insights into the business side of teaching Krav Maga.
In addition, he was one of the featured instructors at the 50th anniversary Wingate Institute Krav Maga seminar in Israel in May, and he'll be fresh off of training Krav Maga in Israel when he comes down to teach (we'll also be doing some Israeli knife fighting training - the same training Tom is presenting at the Wingate Institute in May.)
If you want to get level two instructor training and get qualified to teach level two material without breaking the bank, this will be the seminar to do it at. Since there's no organizational affiliation for the seminar, you don't have to worry about ruffling anyone's feathers or having someone telling you how to do things in your own school once you complete this training.
(In other words, you won't need to pay anyone an affiliate fee to get this training or to attend future training.)
Be advised, I intend to have Tom back for a Level 3 seminar sometime in late 2015 or early 2016, so anyone who attends this seminar will be able to attend that training and get their level 3 at that time as well.
Schedule and Cost
Level 1&2 seminar is scheduled for June 5, 6, and 7. Cost is going to be $195 per person in advance, or $249 at the door. You are welcome to bring an assistant or staff member if you want them to get certified at level 1. No one will be skipped rank.
Seminar will run 9:30 am to 4:30 pm all three days. Friday night from 6-9 pm we will also be hosting a home invasion defense seminar for the public. You are encouraged to attend to see how to run one of these events at your own location.
Tom says that since some of the USKMA level 1 stuff is in level two for them, and vice versa, he's going to cover both level 1 and 2 in the seminar.
Again, if you have anyone who has experience in krav (like a staff member who has gone through a few cycles of level one) and you want them to get their level one cert, you can bring them along. (Note that they WILL NOT be able to cert at level two or jump rank at this seminar!)
Cost is going to be $195 per attendee if you register early, $249 at the door. I'll have a private registration page up shortly.
Here's the breakdown of the seminar:
Day One -
- Morning, Combatives
- Afternoon, Lecture and Israeli Knife Fighting
Friday Night, 6-9 pm -
- Public seminar: Home Invasion (You are welcome to attend and help out. It'd be a very good opportunity to see how to run one of these events in your own school. They are great for getting press coverage, and for generating additional income.)
Day Two -
- Morning, Integrating Kickboxing with Krav Maga; Grab Defenses
- Afternoon, Kick Defenses, Lectures, and Teaching Practice
Day Three -
- Morning, Physical Skills Testing
- Afternoon, Teaching Test
Bring your usual gear (cup, mouthpiece, gloves), a rubber pistol, and a training knife to the seminar.
